The Rowett Institute for Nutrition and Health
The Rowett Institute for Nutrition and Health is in Bucksburn, on the outskirts of Aberdeen. It merged with the University of Aberdeen on the 1st of July 2008 and is part of the College of Life Sciences and Medicine.
The Rowett carries out research into how what we eat affects our health. This covers many areas, including heart disease (cardiovascular disease) and cancer. You can read more about the research they do (and the scientists that work there on their research page)
The Rowett produce some high quality nutrition/science teaching resources for school pupils, you can find out more on their eduweb. There you will find a link to ScienceSnaps, where you can listen to a podcast called “Diving for Cures” where you can learn more about how diving in Fiji and cancer research in Aberdeen are connected.
Finally they are always looking for volunteers for their research studies. So if you live near Aberdeen and would like to be involved in research have a read about the Human Nutrition Unit. and click on Current Studies to find out how you can help.
